Hiring me in the US
is simpler than you think.
.
US companies are increasingly hiring senior design talent from Mexico: same timezone, bilingual communication, and significant cost efficiency. As a Mexican professional under USMCA, I'm TN Visa-eligible: no lottery, no cap, no long sponsorship process.
At a glance
• ~$185 government filing fee (paid by me, not the employer).
• No annual cap (available year-round, no H-1B lottery).
• 1–3 year initial duration, renewable (no long-term sponsorship required).
Why TN is a simple option
✔ Fast: No lottery, no quota, no annual cap. TN is processed at a US port of entry (same-day decision) or via USCIS petition (typically 2–8 weeks). Timeline is in weeks, not years.
✔ Affordable (for both parties): Government fee ~$185, paid by me. No employer-side filing fee, no mandatory attorney, no financial obligation beyond a standard offer letter.
✔ No cap (available year-round): Unlike H-1B, TN has no annual quota and no lottery. It can be initiated any time of year, with no waiting period tied to fiscal calendars.
✔ Low risk to the employer: Non-immigrant status. No long-term sponsorship, no permanent residency obligation, no ongoing compliance burden. If employment ends, TN status ends.
How the process works
1) Employer provides a standard job offer letter (role title*, compensation, duration). No lengthy legal document required.
2) I submit the TN application with my engineering degree, transcripts, and the offer letter, either at a US port of entry (same-day) or via USCIS (2–8 weeks).
3) TN status granted. Work begins on the approved start date.
* Note on job title: The official USMCA occupational category for TN purposes is 'Computer Systems Analyst' (aligned with my engineering degree and technical scope. My resume and portfolio list me as Senior Product Designer, so they are consistent). The TN category is a legal classification, not a job description.
FAQ
• What does this cost the company? Minimal: a job offer letter and a standard employment agreement. I cover the ~$185 government fee. No attorney required (though optional), and no other financial obligations.
• What is the risk to the employer? Low. No long-term sponsorship, no permanent residency obligation, no ongoing compliance burden beyond standard employment.
• Is the documentation ready? Yes. Degree, transcripts, and supporting materials are prepared. Submission is ready within 1–3 business days of receiving an offer letter.
• Is TN used for roles like mine? Yes. The 'Computer Systems Analyst' TN category is regularly used for UX designers, product designers, and front-end engineers in the tech industry, one of the most commonly applied USMCA categories.
Why nearshore senior design talent makes sense in 2026
✔ Same timezone alignment as US West and Central: real-time collaboration, no async delays.
✔ Bilingual (EN/ES): fluent in both markets, no translation layer.
✔ Senior-level expertise at significant cost efficiency vs. equivalent US-based hires.
✔ TN eligibility means hiring is as straightforward as bringing on a US-based contractor.
